There are so many great places to see and things to do if you are traveling through New England states. And, if you are in Vermont, here are the best things to do in Stowe.
This was SO MUCH FUN and a definite cannot miss!
This is open weather permitting from middle of June to middle of October. Hours are 10 am to 4:30 (last ticket is sold at 4:15 pm).
You enter the gondola at the bottom and ride up to the top of Mt Mansfield where you will have outstanding views! And, once at the top, you can dine at the Cliff House Restaurant, visit the Summit Retail Gift Shop and enjoy treats from The Waffle.
PHOTOGRAPHING THE FAMOUS CHURCH
There are several places where you can take pictures of the church but the best place is going to Salon Salon which is behind the church. They do have parking in the bottom lot where you can go.
Unfortunately, we were a few weeks early for the peak Fall foliage but still a beautiful area.
TRAPP FAMILY LODGE
If you like the Sound of Music, then you must see the Trapp Family Lodge. It’s beautiful! Staying there is super expensive but you can go take pictures and eat at one of the restaurants.
COLD HOLLOW CIDER MILL
It wouldn’t be a trip to Stowe, Vermont without stopping at Cold Hollow Cider Mill. They have a huge gift shop where you can pick up tons of souvenirs and on the way out you can stop and buy apple cider donuts and an apple cider slushie.
You can also see how they make cider and also go to the tasting room for the hard cider (obviously if you’re over 21!)
GOLD BROOK COVERED BRIDGE
Also called Emily’s Bridge or Stowe Hollow Bridge. This was built in 1844 and you are still able to drive through it!
So there is a legend that there was a young woman named Emily and between 1849-1949 who was jilted by a lover, and so she then died at the site of this bridge and haunts it to this day. I’ve read that there a no historical records that support this story but it’s a story that has been carried on for years.
These are just a handful of the places that I truly enjoyed while visiting Stowe. The town of Stowe is so incredibly cute and quaint with many little shops and restaurants and a great place to visit. And if you’re going in the winter, Stowe is a fantastic ski town.
It’s a must see when going to New England states no matter what time of year you are traveling!
